The Iowa Radio Reading Information for the Blind and Print Handicapped, Inc.,
known as IRIS, broadcasts timely and topical information to Iowans who are
blind, visually impaired, and/or physically challenged. IRIS broadcasts programs
into individual homes, retirement communities, hospitals and care facilities
throughout Iowa by means of a special radio that is pre-tuned to this unique
radio reading service and provided free. IRIS volunteers read daily newspapers
and magazines over sub-carrier signals to enable listeners to be informed and
involved citizens within their communities.
